artist statement
The "bill series", which I
am in the midst of right now, is a homage to a an influential character
in my life who is no longer with us. It started as one small drawing
(a doodle actuallly) and seems to be growing like bacteria.
Well see where this takes us.
The series of paintings I made titled "mitrals"
came out of a short story I wrote a few summers ago.
The theme concerns the anxiety of a heart condition-- which later was utilized as a jumping off point in exploring issues of representation versus dream states. During that time I became interested in looking at medical diagrams of the heart and found myself pouring over old health book illustrations. Using the media of painting and drawing to explore in color and line what was original conveyed in words became an interesting challenge and one I hope to explore more of in the future.
